Yesterday we said goodbye to Grandpa. He was 96 when he died, what a good solid life!
My Dad took this photo not all that long ago. I don't know if you can see it here like I do but Grandpa had a spark of love in his eye for his family. In the last few years he would hold your hand, squeeze it tight and give you the loveliest smile. It said it all.
Gramps has always been a family man. My uncle wasn't around for this next photo, but it's the day he got the highest scouting award in his time as commissioner of scouts in Whyalla. I love this photo cause it shows what kind of people my Grandparents were... stylish, willing to serve their community, close.
Dad has always had a wonderful relationship with his father and right to the end they stuck together like glue. I'm so proud of the way Dad loved him in practical ways; taking him out for day trips, making sure he had nibbles, seeing him three times a week at the home, taking care of the little things that get so hard when your old. I couldn't have had a better example of love. Not that dissimilar to how Grandpa cared for Gran for all the years they were at home getting older together.
This is grandpa and I when I was young. He was there from the start, showing interest in my life, nurturing my interests and encouraging me to think responsibly. After I gave him a story of mine to read he gave me books about grammar and writing and even gave creative writing a go himself.... I still have his rabbit story.
We will miss John Keith Richards for many reasons. He was the best! But I'm so glad he had such a full, meaningful life. I'll treasure my memories of him and enjoy the benefits of his love always.

I am sorry for your loss!!! It is hard to lose someone who had such an influence in your life. Sending a hug!
So sorry to hear of your family's loss. Yet how fortunate to have lived such a full life; he looks like the epitomy of sweet and loving Grandpa. My own was the same. Such a lovely tribute...
